A Day in the Life

WINE AND DINE AROUND LONDON WITH GUS GLUCK

A Day in the Life takes you into the everyday of local creatives and business owners as they show you the best of their city.

Meet Gus Gluck.

Gus is one of the Directors at GB Wine Shippers and previous founder of Quality Wines. He lives in Newington Green, North of Angel and East of Dalston - an area populated with “proper Turkish grocers, modest pubs and many an underripe fig tree.” We caught up with Gus on his new business and favourite independent brands in London. “We’ve only been in business since May so my job description is relatively vast. The most important job I do is taste wines before they reach these shores and check if they deserve to be released on British based drinkers. Then I make sure it is here safe, sound and in budget. I then make sure the buyers (retailers, bars and restaurants) understand how special they are. Finally, I maintain, develop and build long lasting relationships. It’s not rocket science, but then again I was never that smart.”

GB Wine Shippers Backstory.

“Richard (my business partner) and myself started this as two experienced people from two different corners of the UK wine business as a means of having the potential of a larger impact on the wine business in the UK. The idea is not reinventing the wheel. Wine importing is a trade that has been going for at the very least 500 years in the UK. We just want people to continue drinking awesome wines, made by real people and grown in ethically as a robust way as possible.”

What is Coming Next for GB Wine Shippers?

“Lots of things. From collaborative wine labels we brand ourselves to some English wine we are making. We have a penchant for education, so keep watching our wine videos.”
